- Most popular networks are not to be trusted at this point due to censorship, moderation, security, privacy, or government influences
- Federated, encrypted networks, and open source networks tend to be much better
- Political ties, policy changes, and algorithm changes are still evolving
- Users may migrate between networks depending on policies and popularity
Caveats
- This is my informed opinion but I’m open to feedback
- US based, though foreign networks are allowed if popular in the US
- Things may change rapidly but not all sources may be trustworthy
- The boundaries between moderation, censorship, and algorithms can be blurry
- It can’t always be assumed if a change is made for political or business reasons
